The De Beers’s ReSet Collective Collection Hits Sotheby’s
Featuring five one-of-a-kind natural diamond pendant necklaces, each created in partnership with De Beers and a different leading independent female United States-based jewelry designer, Sotheby’s upcoming public auction happening from December 10 to 17, 2020 is limited but mighty.
For a clearer picture, join us on a trip back in time to late last year—you know, when COVID-19 wasn’t a… thing… and travel still was…
It was then that De Beers extended invitations to the oh-so talented and accomplished Jade Trau, Jennie Kwon, Julez Bryant, Sara Weinstock and Zoë Chicco to travel to its diamond source country, Botswana, to witness first-hand the positive impact of the company’s practices on the people and wildlife there.
The designers’ homework upon return: to each create a pendant encapsulating their own unique learnings and experiences.
Featuring lions, leopards, elephants and zebras (Oh my!), and even a depiction of a diamond mine, the finished products seep with story, meaning and bold optimism; each piece channels the designers’ depths of inspiration as well as De Beers’s respect for Botswana. Plus, as a testament to De Beers’s commitments to ethicality and sustainability, four of the five designs incorporate a De Beers natural rough diamond procured on the trip.

Sotheby’s will be auctioning each for $20,000 to $25,000 a pop, with 100 percent of the hammer price from each piece split equally between two charities: Stepping Stones International in Botswana and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund in America.
Of course, it’s easy to justify a purchase that’s so striking to the eye and also represents some of 2020’s most prevalent themes (eco-consciousness, equality and beyond). That said, if you miss out this time, don’t fret: the ReSet Collective is part of De Beers’s larger ongoing ReSet initiative. Meaning more diamond creations in the name of good will be coming your way soon enough.
