Straight Down The Line: Natural Diamond Tennis Essentials Are All The Rage

Here comes Tenniscore!

By |

Someone asked me recently if I was a fan of tennis, to which I responded, “I love tennis bracelets and necklaces.” As an avid shopper and jewelry lover, in this day and age, I see the trends come and go. Last year, we experienced the era of Barbiecore, and a resurgence of the color pink everywhere we looked. Most recently, the mob wife aesthetic gave us a new outlook on chunky gold and natural diamond jewelry. In comes the latest trend, Tenniscore, which celebrates classic natural diamond tennis essentials, that have arguably been around forever, but are now trending across the internet as we await Luca Guadagnino’s latest buzzy film, Challengers, starring Zendaya as a budding tennis pro.

The film’s press tour and tennis season fast approaching have called attention to the sport and its understated attire. Tennis has always warranted chic ensembles and excellent accessories on the court, which is typically unlike other sports where you must remove your jewelry before stepping onto the court. Chris Everett changed the game when her diamond bracelet slipped off her wrist during the US Open in 1978. The game was halted so she could find it, thus creating the infamous name, “tennis bracelet.”

Soon after Everett’s diamond tennis bracelet moment, actresses like Farah Fawcett, for example, accentuated her casual tennis ensemble with natural diamond tennis bracelets and necklaces. Serena Williams, who needs no introduction in the tennis world, took the beloved jewelry staple off the court in 2002 while visiting Harry Winston’s Fifth Avenue store. Ahead of the U.S. Open, the jeweler blinged the pro-athlete out in a nine-carat diamond and platinum tennis bracelet. Williams also has her own natural diamond jewelry line, exclusively sold on Zales.com, and is an ambassador for Audemars Piguet.
