Erin Sachse of Eriness Jewelry Tells Us How Family Inspired Her Latest Collection

Never dismiss the importance of elementary school exploits. Erin Sachse got her first taste of jewelry design in a sixth grade elective. By the time she started her university studies she had turned the hobby of making bracelets, hand chains and other trinkets into a jewelry collection sold in 15 stores. She’s come a long way from assembling pieces in her dorm room. The grown-up iteration of her brand Eriness is full of lighthearted pieces in gold and diamonds that pay up her freewheeling Southern California roots and are heirlooms in the making. 

Talk about the pieces in the campaign. Did you draw on specific inspirations?  

My friends and family call me “sunshine” and the Baguette Circle necklace comes from that. It has a round shape that represents the sun. I wanted to create something timeless and day-to-night. The baguettes are striking and the necklace highlights the beauty of the stones.

And the Smushed Heart pinky ring was inspired by a ring my mom got for her 16th birthday. I love looking at my hands and seeing fun, playful jewelry. When I look at my pinky and see a little heart, I’m reminded of love, happiness and keeping it cool. It’s all pavé diamonds in different sizes, which adds a sparkly effect that I love. It’s a show piece and could stand alone but I add I’ll wear it with along with simple eternity bands on my ring finger. 

Do you have a favorite approach to styling your pieces? 

I love to layer. More is more. I’ll layer diamonds in a mix of shapes and silhouettes. Like, I’ll put together a dog tag with a ladybug pendant and strands that are all diamonds.  I love to stack and layer but I also have core pieces I’m always wearing. I test drive everything in my collection, so I’m probably wearing 40 pieces right now.

Where should someone start their own diamond jewelry collection? 

I love a diamond signet ring. They’re classic but so much fun. And you can wear one as a standalone piece. You don’t need anything else to go with it.  

What’s your earliest memory of loving diamonds? 

When I was a little girl I would visit with my grandmother with the intention of putting on every piece of her jewelry! She had beautiful diamond brooches and pins. Usually the stones came from pieces of family jewelry. I loved the idea of repurposing diamonds from old engagement rings and other pieces to give them another life. They are part of our family’s story. 

You’re a Californian. Does that play into your work? 

Definitely! My first collection was called Sunset Boulevard. It’s a street that travels through LA, from the beach to Hollywood. You can see so many walks of life there and I was inspired by that. I think LA jewelry is a little more playful and dainty. I’m an LA girl through and through. Never leaving!
